A Practice Research Of Innovation In Bamboo Woven Jewelry Design

As China boasts abundant bamboo resources,traditional bamboo weaving techniques witnessed an all-round development in Ming and Qing dynasties.With China stepping into the industrial age,traditional bamboo woven items have been gradually replaced by industrial products due to fast social changes,resulting into a crisis of loss of traditional bamboo weaving techniques caused by lack of inheritors.In recent years,the State has been offering strong support to traditional techniques by providing a satisfying development environment.Although the pressure in development of traditional techniques is eased,the tough problem of inheritance and development has not been solved yet.The same problem of lack of inheritors and product innovation is also faced with regard to bamboo weaving techniques.Therefore,the purpose of research of innovation in bamboo woven jewelry design is to explore effective solutions.This article focuses on research of innovation in bamboo woven jewelry design.First,by analyzing the literatures,the author summarized origin and development of bamboo woven items and jewelry,as well as the current application of traditional bamboo weaving techniques in modern design field,in particular,the design of jewelry;furthermore,the author analyzed the common characteristics between bamboo woven items and jewelry from the aspects of their historical origin,shapes and technique features and the problem of lack of variety of today's bamboo woven ornaments.Second,the author attempted to interpret and comprehend the bamboo woven jewelry by designers and artists and explored the paths and possibilities of their artistic expression from the aspects of materials expression,color adaptability of decoration and multi-dimensional changes of space.Finally,the author conducted field study of Wulong bamboo woven items and Liangping bamboo curtains in Chongqing and Qingshen bamboo woven items in Sichuan,so as to explore and study the processes of making of traditional bamboo art ware.Furthermore,the author also attended the school's bamboo weaving workshop to learn the method and techniques of bamboo weaving and to understand and analyze the details about the flows of bamboo weaving techniques,which offered substantial help in the practice of innovation in bamboo woven jewelry.As to the creation of bamboo woven jewelry,the author first conductive innovative experiment on bamboo weaving,metal texture,and dying of bamboo and metals.After a great number of practices,the author carried out innovative design and making of bamboo woven jewelry.The subject was selected based on traditional bamboo weaving culture and the author's inspiration and elaborated mainly from the design and practice process of bamboo woven jewelry,including practice innovation of small samples,sketching drafts,the process of creation and presentation of bamboo woven jewelry.Through the research of innovation in bamboo woven jewelry design,the author hopes that it will offer substantial references to theoretical research and innovative design of bamboo woven products in the future and that it will expand their application in more fields and promote fast development of bamboo weaving techniques.
