Small-sized sympodial bamboo which is abundant in China has not be used sufficiently inbamboo industry. The author of this paper probed into producing strand woven bamboo lumber,which was made of bamboo bundle pieces without removing the green and yellow surfaces,with small-sized sympodial bamboo speciese Neosinocalamus affinis to increase largely theutilization of bamboo. In this study, the effect of dipping time and phenol formaldehydeconcentration on resin impregnation rate of bamboo bundle pieces, and the processes of strandwoven bamboo lumber, the exploratory experiment of the shear strength of strand wovenbamboo lumber, the properties of bamboo/wood composite lumber made by bamboo bundlepieces and wood bundles in different hybrid fiber structure types with different hybrid ratio aswell as the aging resistant performance of strand woven bamboo lumber and bamboo/woodlumber were discussed, the main content and conclusions are as follows:(1) The effect of dipping time and phenol formaldehyde concentration on resinimpregnation rate of bamboo bundle pieces was investigated in this paper. According to the testresults and Washburn equation, a mathematical model consisted of dipping time and phenolformaldehyde concentration was established.(2) Response surface methodology (RSM) based on a three-factor Box behnkenexperiments was used to analyze and optimize the properties of strand woven bamboo lumber.The critical factors for the investigation are density, amount of resin and press, which arrangedunder3levels. Four response surface models were build by quadratic polynomials with analysisof variance and F-test including the modules of rupture, modules of elasticity, internal bond,and horizontal shear strength, the results showed the4models are significant, and themechanical properties of strand woven bamboo lumber was analyzed and predicted by the4models, and optimization area for manufacturing strand woven bamboo lumber was obtained.(3) Double-notch interlaminar shear strength test is selected to test the shear strength ofstrand woven bamboo lumber. The author try to use this method to achieve the qualitative dataof the shear strength of strand woven bamboo lumber, and to hunt a better way to explain theinner glue layer shear strength of bamboo bundles pieces in strand woven bamboo lumber withmore intuitive. The results showed the method is feasible, and inner glue layer shear strength ofstrand woven bamboo lumber was analyzed.(4) The properties of bamboo/wood composite made of bamboo bundle pieces and woodbundles in two hybrid fiber structure types with three hybrid ratio was analyzed in this study.The results showed the MOR and MOE of bamboo/wood composite is increased by the ratio of bamboo bundle pieces, while the internal bond strength is decreased. The bending properties ofsandwich structure with bamboo bundle pieces as surface and back is better than that of thelayer structure interleaved with bamboo bundle pieces and wood bundles.(5) The aging resistant performance including MOR, MOE and IB of strand wovenbamboo lumber and bamboo/wood composite were tested according to Chinese stand CB/T17657-1999. The results showed the properties of strand woven bamboo lumber andbamboo/wood composite are decreased after aging resistant test,and the decline extent ofproperties and the rate of dimensional change are obvious less by the density and amount ofresin; The bending properties of layer structure reduce more largely than that of the sandwichstructure with bamboo bundle pieces as surface and back.
