Pixels originated from the screen images in the 1980s when all the electronic display screens had technical problems of insufficient precision.Pixel images often appear in the form of squares.It is a special form of graphic due to technical limitations.In recent years,pixel element has gained extensive attention in all fields of art and design due to its visual uniqueness and recognizability.The extensive usage indicates that such visual element can well combine technological with art.The paper takes the design and application of pixel element in fashion products as the research purpose,and applys 3 main methods:literature research,grid analysis and practical support.First of all,while comb the origin,definition and development of the pixel,make a certain distinction between pixel art and similar art forms which are easily confused Summarize several visual features of pixel element,such as:regular arrangement with same unit,ladder-shape,2D and 3D,recognizable abstraction and so on.The definition of the pixel has been deeply studied from various angles through a series of research process,which enrich the theory related to pixel.Secondly,based on the practical purpose of fashion design,the design principles of pixel element in fashion have been developed:visual recognizability,fashionability and product adaptability.New process has been created based on printing process and wool felt process.Finally,as a source of inspiration the portraits in pop culture are adopted,three design methods of pixel portrait are been used:material adaptation,abstract summary and grid analysis.In this design both impressionist Mondrian's"Red,Yellow and Blue" and neutral color "black,white and gray" are been borrowed.In addition,QR code patterns are added to create interactive experience.In the section of production technology,innovative methods of pixel element in fashion product are been highlighted.This topic explores and studies the various forms of application how pixel element uses in fashion design,realizes the principles of visual recognizability,fashionable and product adaptability,and completes the verification from design method theories to practice.
