Ruyi has been regarded as a propitious and blessed thing since ancient times.People are deeply fond of it because of its unique shape,profound and fine moral.Ruyi pattern,an auspicious symbol of traditional Chinese culture,has also been handed down during the long history.Its perfect model style,plentiful color collocation and profound cultural connotation still worth exploring and inheriting in modern society.This paper takes women's clothing in late Qing Dynasty as the research carrier to elaborate Ruyi pattern through vertical and horizontal lines,focusing on its spiritual and cultural connotation and artistic expression form.On the vertical level,the paper introduces the origin of Ruyi,expounds history and evolution characteristics of Ruyi pattern,then further explores the extension of Ruyi pattern's connotation which is influenced by social customs and aesthetic thoughts in late Qing Dynasty.On the horizontal level,through the research on the application of Ruyi pattern in women's clothing in late Qing Dynasty,this paper classifies and summarizes its structural characteristics,composing methods,modeling features,color collocation and combination application,so as to interpret the combination of Ruyi pattern's auspicious meaning and unique style.Depending on flexible interleaving of these two lines,I reveal Ruyi pattern's artistic value,combination form and traditional moral thought in the long evolution process vividly,then deeply consider and grasp the essence of Ruyi pattern and look for the basis and inspiration for its innovative design,which should not only be based on the change,but also extend its internal value.I just try my best to constantly unearth the artistic charm of Chinese civilization and contribute to the promotion of traditional culture.
