It is of great significance to study the spatiotemporal change law and driving mechanism of land use and land cover(LULC)for optimizing land management, promoting economic development and ensuring the sustainable development of land resources.Taking west of Liaoning Province as the research object, this paper selects six Landsat series remote sensing images in 1990,1996,2002,2008,2014 and 2020 to explore the temporal and spatial variation of LULC and its driving forces in west of Liaoning Province in the past 30 years. The specific work is as follows:(1)Six remote sensing images of west of Liaoning were collected and preprocessed by radiometric calibration, atmospheric correction, clipping and splicing;(2)According to the characteristics of LULC in western Liaoning, the classification standard of land type in this area is determined, and the support vector machine(SVM)multi classifier is designed to classify the six remote sensing images by LULC;(3)According to the classification results, the change characteristics of LULC are analyzed in general and different time periods, including the interpretation of change, dynamic degree and transfer;(4)Based on the statistical yearbook data, this paper uses principal component analysis to analyze the main driving factors of LULC change in west of Liaoning qualitatively and quantitatively, and reveals the main driving forces;(5)This paper puts forward reasonable suggestions for the sustainable development of LULC in west of Liaoning. The results show that: from 1990 to 2020,LULC in west of Liaoning has changed significantly. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)in the overall structure, farmland and woodland are the main types of LULC in western Liaoning, accounting for more than 70% of the total area;(2)From the perspective of change rate, the order of land change rate from strong to weak is construction land > unused land > woodland > cultivated land > water area > grassland;(3)According to the transfer matrix, from 1990 to 2020,the mutual transformation among various land use types is more in tense, the area of forest land, construction land and water area increases, and the area of unused land, cultivated land and grassland decreases;(4)From the driving force analysis, the change of LULC in the study area in the past 30 years is the result of the joint influence of natural, demographic and economic factors.Based on the above research results, suggestions are put forward to give consideration to development and protection, reasonable planning and scientific management, land information management, and enhancing public awareness of ecological protection. The paper has 11 diagrams,18 tables and 69 references.
