Based on two hypotheses of plant phytophagous insect interaction:growth differentiation balance hypothesis(GDB)and growth rate hypothesis(GRH),this paper discusses the interaction between physiological growth and defense of plants under drought stress on phytophagous insects.Due to the loss of biodiversity in recent years, its importance to the maintenance of ecosystem functions and services has been increasingly recognized. In order to emphasize the response of plant diversity to the dual stress of plants, different plant combinations were used to carry out corresponding research.By measuring the fresh weight, water, dry weight, plant leaf carbon and nitrogen, root carbon and nitrogen, total phenols and tannins,we explored whether the response of plant diversity changes to the dual stress of drought and locusts conformed to the above two hypotheses, and reached the following conclusions:(1)When Aneurolepidium chinense was planted alone, there was no significant change in each index between locusts added and locusts not added under drought conditions, which did not accord with the two hypotheses.(2)When Artemisia frigida was planted alone, there was no significant change in dry weight between locusts added and no locusts added under drought conditions, but the nitrogen content in leaves increased significantly by 126%,the total phenol content in plants increased by 26%,but there was no significant difference in tannin content. It was speculated that it was in line with the growth differentiation hypothesis.(3)When Caragana microphylla was planted alone, the dry weight and root total nitrogen content increased significantly by 159%and 124%compared with that without locusts under drought conditions, while the total nitrogen, total phenol and tannin content in leaves increased, although they did not increase significantly, which did not accord with the two hypotheses.(4)In the mixed planting of Leymus chinensis and Caragana microphylla, the total nitrogen content of leaves increased significantly by 46%,the dry weight increased by 17%,and the total phenol content decreased by 26%but not significantly under drought conditions. It is speculated that it conforms to the growth rate hypothesis.(5)When Leymus chinensis and Artemisia frigida were mixed planted, the carbon content of leaves with locusts and without locusts increased significantly by 8%under drought conditions, and there was no significant difference in other indicators, which did not conform to the two hypotheses.(6)When Artemisia frigida and Caragana microphylla were mixed planted, there was no significant difference in each index between adding locusts and not adding locusts under drought conditions,so it did not conform to the two hypotheses.(7)When Leymus chinensis,Artemisia frigida and Caragana microphylla were planted together, there was no significant difference in each index between adding locusts and not adding locusts under drought conditions, which did not accord with the two hypotheses.
