As a new generation of interactive media,Virtual Reality(VR)technology is get to used for protein molecule visualization because of its immersion and interaction characteristics,which brings new perspectives and ideas to researchers.At the same time,it has a unique advantage in education.However,the process of protein visualization in VR engine is cumbersome and lack of corresponding VR visualization software tool;meanwhile,in the field of drug design,the theory of molecular docking is abstract,the existing tools can not bring about the visualization of procedure.Based on the above two problems,this study mainly does two aspects of work.First,by means of molecular modeling tools and VR engine,we developed a virtual reality teaching software about molecular docking — DOCKVR.Voice explanation,animation demonstration,molecular visualization,interactive operation and other content were integrated in the software.It realizes a method to simulate the process of molecular docking in virtual reality environment,and designs two VR interactive experiments based on this method.Theoretical knowledge learning and VR experimental operations on molecular docking can be fulfilled in the virtual classroom.The professional terms of molecular docking are explained in simple ways to assist teaching.Secondly,a protein VR visualization tool—PDBVR is developed,which realizes the reading and parsing of protein files,the visualization of various protein geometric models,the operation of molecules,distance calculation and other rich VR interactive functions in VR environment.It improves the existing protein visualization workflow,realizes one-stop VR visualization of protein molecular structure,and provides a new tool for protein molecular in VR visualization.In conclusion,this study uses VR to create two software,which provided new means and contents for the application of VR technology in life science.
