Climatic Responsive Architecture Design

The natural resources shortage and climate change have led to public concern for health living environment.The theme that how to achieve energy-saving,environmentfriendly and comfortable buildings is essential to China.Climate responsive architecture design is not a fresh topic.It was proposed and developed in the 1960 s and1970s in the developed countries and has now expanded its intension and extension.The earliest climate responsive architecture design originated from the empirical cognition of environment and climate.While after the Industrial Revolution,it turned to be a worry about environmental pollution and energy consumption.Nowadays,the connotation of climate responsive architecture design has been endowed with more significance — not only to discuss the relationship between climate and physiological factors of human comfort,but also to cross-integrate with other disciplines,resulting in new achievements.However,in China,climate responsive architecture design has not received enough attention.Although the slogans like "green building”,“Eco-architecture" and "Sustainable Architecture" have spread throughout projects,whether these projects truly achieve their propaganda is doubtful.Meanwhile,the climate responsive architecture design in China relies too much on technology and equipment,ignoring the function of architecture per se.From the works of modernist architects,the law of climate responsive architecture design can be found-from vernacular tradition to integrated design.Firstly,this thesis focuses on the trends of climate responsive architecture design — untangle the development history,probes into the definition,and expands the understanding of climate responsive architecture design.Secondly,taking the representative works of modern architects as examples,this thesis analyzes the practice under the background of low-tech and high-tech,and comes to the conclusion that the low-tech climate responsive design grows out of region,while the high-tech climate responsive design embodies the guiding ideology of integrated design.At last,the trend of development in climate responsive architecture design is summarized and some suggestions are proposed.
