In order to reveal the characteristics of plant communities and their correlation with soil factors in Mountain Kalamaili Nature Reserve, the quadrat investigation and soil factors were carried out.TWINSPAN and DCA were used for community classification. The characteristics of plant communities were analyzed, such as plant composition, geographical flora, diversity index, etc.CCA was used to discover the relationship between soil factors and community distribution, diversity index.Through these to get the main soil factors which affecting the community characteristic. The differences between desert and water source areas habitats were analyzed, including plant community characteristics and soil factors. The main results are as follows:(1)According to investigation and literature data statistics, there are 229 plant species, belongs to 140 genera,34 families in Mountain Kalamaili Nature Reserve. These species includes 3 gymnosperm species and 226 angiosperm species. There are19 types and subtypes of plant genera in the reserve according to the geographical flora. The most common types in the reserve are the Mediterranean,West to Central Asia,Cosmopolitan,North Temperate.According to the life forms of desert vegetation, the vegetation in the Nature Reserve can be divided into five subtypes,11 main communities.(2)According to the investigation of typical water source in Mountain Kalamaili Ungulate Nature Reserve,7 associations were obtained;Margalef index ranged from0.12-1.29,Shannon-Winner index ranged from 0.03-1.75,Pielou index ranged from0.04-0.88,Simpson index ranged from 0.01-0.57.Soil physical and chemical properties were measured,p H ranged from 8.25-9.05,electrical conductivity ranged from39.90-436.00?S/cm,organic matter ranged from 6.26-114.99g/kg,total nitrogen ranged from2.03-7.43g/kg,total phosphorus ranged from1.24-2.1g/kg,and total potassium ranged from10.33-23.10g/kg.CCA analysis showed that organic matter and total nitrogen had a great influence on the plant association diversity in water source. The correlation between plant association diversity index and soil factors confirmed that organic matter?total nitrogen had a great correlation with the plant association diversity index.(3)A total of 209 quadrates were investigated in desert habitats, and the plant communities were divided into 17 associations by cluster analysis;Margalef index ranged from 0.35-0.90,Shannon-Winner index ranged from 0.19-1.22,Simpson index ranged from 0.07-0.63,Pielou index ranged from 0.15-0.76 in desert habitat.Soil physical and chemical properties were measured in the range of p H 8.48-9.19,electrical conductivity ranged from 32.47-234.77 ? S/cm,organic matter ranged from0.31-3.46g/kg,total nitrogen ranged from 0.82-2.48g/kg,total phosphorus ranged from0.21-0.34g/kg and total potassium ranged from 10.20-18.72g/kg.In desert area,CCA analysis and correlation analysis showed that total phosphorus had the greatest influence on plant community distribution and species diversity index.(4)K-S normality test and variance analysis of plant association diversity index in water source area and desert area of Mountain Kalamaili Nature Reserve showed that the differences between Simpson index and Pielou index were not significant. Therefore, there was no significant difference in plant association diversity index between the two habitats. The soil physical and chemical factors of water source and desert habitats in Mountain Kalamaili Nature Reserve were compared. The results showed that the p H value and total potassium of soil in the two habitats were normal distribution, and the p H value was significantly different(P<0.05).
