The Return Of Metaphysics In The Philosophy Of Science

Philosophy of Science has a complex relationship with metaphysics.In1920,at the beginning,the rise of Philosophy of Science as a subject,the Logical Positivists represented by Vienna School excluded metaphysics from philosophy,and they thought that metaphysical proposition was meaningless.The rejecting metaphysics has been supported by some natural scientists,but it has also attracted the dissatisfaction of many traditional philosophers.Since the 1950 s,with the decline of Logical Empiricism,the study of metaphysics by analytical philosophers and the discussion of ontological commitment by Quinn,metaphysics has realized its return in philosophy.The return of metaphysics in Philosophy of Science is accompanied by the debate between Scientific Realism and Anti-realism.Through the transition of Structural Realism to Ontic Structural Realism,a comprehensive revival has been made in Scientific Metaphysics.This paper chooses the stage from Structural Realism to Scientific Metaphysics to trace back the regression process of metaphysics in Philosophy of Science,and discusses the similarities and differences between Scientific Metaphysics and Analytic Metaphysics.In order to reveal the significance of metaphysical research in the current stage of scientific development.The first chapter of the paper combs the development of metaphysics,reviews the historical coincidence of science and metaphysics in the object of study,and discusses the rejecting metaphysics by Philosophers of Science in the early 20 th century and the metaphysical research of analytical philosophers in the second half of the 20 th century,which provides the background for the study of the full text.The second chapter introduces the research of Structural Realism,and cards how to find the middle way under the background of Scientific Realism and Anti-realism debate.It points out how the Ontic Structural Realism shows that there are problems in the study of individuality in Analytic Metaphysics in order to combs Scientific Metaphysics.The third chapter discusses the program of Scientific Metaphysics,compares the difference between Scientific Metaphysics and Analytic Metaphysics,the difference between its unified science and Logical Empiricism,and discusses the problems existing in the study of Scientific Metaphysics.The conclusion,combined with the study of contemporary science,looks forward to the future progress of Scientific Metaphysics,and points out that this path is the probable path for Philosophy of Science to break through the predicament.
