The history of a university is an essential part of the campus culture,which reflects its spiritual value and belief of scholar and education.Visualizing the history on a map is an effective way to propaganda their culture and draw public attention.However,traditional visualization methods cannot fully support the need for visualizing various information related to a university,as the data collection techniques and users' requirements develop.There are many aspects of a university history map(UHMap)that needs to be visualized,including organization structures,relations between entities,behavior abilities,etc.The UHMap has features such as spatial-temporal,multiple scales,and dynamic.To visualize multiple characteristics of the UHMap and bridge the gap between human and university historical information,we propose the research of multiple-granularity spatial-tempo modeling and visualization.The main content of this research are as follows:1.Propose the research objectives base on the problems in state of the art.Analyze the literature related to multi-granularity spatial-temporal objects,historical maps,and big data visualization.Propose the research objectives aiming at creating a modeling framework for multi-granularity spatial-temporal objects and enriching the visualization method of UHMap.2.Design the method of UHMap modeling.Present related concepts of multi-granularity spatialtemporal objects and UHMap,and make a comparison between traditional UHMap and multigranularity spatial-temporal UHMap.Propose the conceptional framework of multi-granularity spatial-temporal UHMap(MGST-UHMap)and design a mapping method for the class features of spatial-tempo objects.3.Propose the modeling methods for spatial-temporal objects in MGST-UHMap.Create the system and workflow for the modeling of spatial-temporal objects in MGST-UHMap.Design the methodology of spatial-temporal modeling for the UHMap and experiment to verify the objectification modeling method of MGST-UHMap.4.Research on visualization techniques for MGST-UHMap.Propose the processing of MGSTUHMap visualization.Create a classification scheme for MGST-UHMap visualization techniques.Design spatial-temproal oriented visualization methods.Design the interaction methods which concentrated on multi-granularity and customization.5.Design and implement the prototype of MGST-UHMap.We design and implement the prototype of MGST-UHMap,including data modeling and visualization,with the historical data of Information Engineering University(IEU).The functionality of the prototype is verified in the experiment.The contributions of this research are: propose the conceptual framework,data modeling methods,and visualization for MGST-UHMap,which is a theoretical innovation that completes the UHMap visualization.The MGST-UHMap prototype is a novel tool for people to explore historical data of universities.Our research also provides suggestions for further design of historical data visualization,which contributes to the domain with a perspective of multi-granularity spatial-temporal objects.
