Taxonomic Studies On Epipsammic Araphid Diatoms In The North Coasts Of Fujian Province

Diatoms can be divided into two main group based on their living habitats:one is planktonic diatoms and the other is benthic diatoms.Planktonic diatoms live in the water and benthic diatoms attach on the substrate.Benthic diatoms consist of four groups according to their substrate:epilithic diatom,epipelic diatom,epiphytic diatom and epipsammic diatom.Studies on epipsammic diatoms are still in the exploratory phase.There is a lack of systemetic research though many studies has reported lots of new species of epipsammic diatoms in China.A huge amount of diatoms are under research.Our study focuses on epipsammic araphid diatoms in the north coastal areas of Fujian Province(Pingtan,Ningde,Putian,Changle)in four seasons of one year.The results are showed as follows:1,A total of 16 epipsammic araphid aitoms species under 15 genera,7 families has been identified in the north coastal areas of Fujian Province.The 7 families includes:Aulacodiscaceae,Anaulaceae,Cymatosiraceae,Fragilariaceae,Licmophoraceae,Plagiogrammaceae,Rhaphoneidaceae.We made a description of their morphology,ecological habits and global distribution after a characteristics observation.Pictures are showed in the plates.2,Two new species of Plagiostriata Sato&Medlin(Plagiostriata xiapuensis Wang,Chen&Gao sp.nov.and Plagiostriata pingtanensis Wang,Chen&Gao sp.nov.)were reported in this essay.These two species were discovered in Dajing Beach in Ningde,Longfengtou Beach in Pingtan.Two species in this genera had been reported globally so far,one is Plagiostriata goreensis and another is Plagiostriata baltica.The two new species also has its first report in China.All these four species in genera Plagiostriata Sato&Medlin were epipsammic diatoms.3,We discovered an undescribed genera under family Fragilariaceae Greville,and gave a descripition of its morphology,ecological habits and distribution.LM and SEM(Scanning Electronic Microscope)picturs are showed in plates.4,Two epipsammic araphid diatom genera Pravifusus Garcia,Lambertocellus Dabek&Witkowski and three species Psammotaenia lanceolata Ashworth,Li&Witkowski,Aulacodiscus johnsonii Arnott ex Ralfs,Eunotogramma litorale Amspoker were newly recorded in China.Our study made a systematical research on the epipsammic araphid diatoms diversity in northern Fujian Province.It will provide new directions and technical methods for researchers.Also it is an important reference for investigation of epipsammic diatoms.The research enriched diatom diversity in China and made our marine living diversity more abundant.It will benefit for marine ecology in future.
