Abstract/Summary:
This research paper is the beginning of an exploration of success: What motivates students in postsecondary agricultural education to be successful? Are there indicators that influence the leadership styles and behaviors of one student versus another? Are various organizations helpful to further student gains while in college? This study looks describes pre-collegiate agricultural education experiences and it describes the leadership styles and behaviors of collegiate agriculture students. TSU agriculture students scored well in Transactional Leadership. They performed right at or above benchmarks that are ideal for Transactional Leadership. They scored especially well in the subscale of Rewards Achievements. In terms of Transformational Leadership, TSU students did not hit the benchmarks within any of the constructs being measured. Those in the College of Agriculture and in the university have work to do to develop Transformational Leadership in our students. Recommendations for educators and future research are also provided.
