Abstract/Summary:
Antennas are important microwave components which are used in all wireless gadgets. A good antenna design can lift off various constraints on the transmitter or receiver designs whereas a poor antenna design can make the most advanced of transmitter or receiver circuits perform poorly. Thus, antennas should be designed according to the application they are required for. For example, applications such as RFIDs, BANs, and WSNs require antennas to have a quasi-isotropic radiation pattern along with large bandwidth. Also these antennas are supposed to work for unlicensed ISM band. Hybrid Dipole Antenna, presented in this thesis, fulfils all the requirements for these applications. There is also an increased interest in the 60 GHz ISM band due to its unique properties such as LOS and multipath transmission, apart from the large data carrying capacity for indoor applications. But for proper transmission, maintaining communication link when the LOS is blocked and to overcome the high atmospheric attenuation, a high gain multi directional antenna is required. Compact Hexagon Antenna is presented in this thesis which is aimed to work in the 60 GHz ISM band for Indoor applications.
