Abstract/Summary:
The localization of radiating sources by sensor arrays is a classical research in radar, sonar, radio-astronomy, and seismology. In this thesis, first the signal and noise model are established and the problems of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of narrowband and wideband sources are stated. In the case of narrowband signal, a review of the existing methods, e.g., Maximum-Likelihood, Linear Prediction and Eigenstructure-based methods, are given and the limitations of these methods are discussed. For the estimation of wideband signals, several existing algorithms are implemented and their performances are presented.; The main difficulty for those high resolution methods is that when the signals are fully correlated (coherent). The solutions for coherent cases are proposed and the statistical performance analyses of the proposed methods are then compared with the existing methods.
