The estimation of direction-of-arrival (DOA) is one of thedevelopment directions in smart antennas. Because of the specialnature of the coherent signals, it has been the most significantpart in DOA estimation. Though the algorithm of traditional DOAestimation is simple, it can only estimate the pitching angle or theazimuthal angle separately. As we all know, the obtain of the twoparameters at the same time can help more in describing thesignal information accurately. Therefore, the research of2-D DOAestimation algorithm is of great significance.In this article, some estimation algorithms of2-D DOA based onnarrowband coherent signals were studied. The main contents areas follows:Firstly, a brief introduction of smart antennas and thedevelopment of DOA estimation of narrowband coherent signalswere present, and the mathematical model of spatial spectrumestimation was modeled. Then, the algorithm of the traditionalDOA estimation was summarized.Secondly, the estimation methods of the coherent signals wereanalyzed detailed. On this basis, three algorithm models of2-DDOA estimation were discussed. They were based on uniform plane array and uniform circular array respectively. The2-D DOAestimation algorithm based on Unitary ESPRIT converts thecomplex matrix into a real one, which need not the spectral peaksearching and simplifies the calculation greatly. The simulationresults illustrate the good performance of the algorithm even innon-ideal conditions. The2-D DOA estimation based on the planararray with MUSIC algorithm has a high accuracy due to the2-Dspectral peak search. At the same time, both of the pitching angleand the azimuthal angle can be obtained at the same time. Thealgorithm based on the uniform circular array preprocessing thematrix of signal which makes it estimating the angle informationvia MUSIC algorithm. The MATLAB simulation results show theapplicability of the above algorithm.Finally, the article sum up the main research work, summarizedinnovations and the insufficient.
