Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to profile faculty within graduate library education programs which are not accredited by ALA as to education; certifications; teaching, library, and media occupational experiences; and perceived problems facing these programs.;The results showed that most of these library education programs are in colleges of education. Faculties are small, and while most faculty members possess doctorate degrees, a greater majority of those degrees are in instructional technology rather than in library science. Most posses certifications as school library media specialists and as teachers and have experience in other library/media jobs. Problems identified included needs for more faculty and for more understanding of the library education program by university administrators and faculty.;A questionnaire was sent to 121 library education program heads identified within Departments of Education of the fifty states and District of Columbia. Respondents provided the data used in the study, and their forced-choiced responses are reported as raw data and percentages. Responses to open-ended questions are summarized.
