Abstract/Summary:
Sharing a patient's vital medical information electronically in an appropriate and secure way allows pharmacists, physicians, insurance agencies and other health care clinicians to make decision that directly impact access, quality, safety and cost of patient care. The purpose of the proposed project is to assess technology that can efficiently and securely share critical patient information while avoiding readmissions, medication errors, and improve diagnosis accuracy and reduce duplicate laboratory another redundant diagnostic testing.;Prime Healthcare Services and the non-profit Prime Healthcare Foundation own and operate 25 acute care hospitals in California, Kansas, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Texas. To meet Meaningful Use Stage 2 criteria, Prime Healthcare is implementing Health Information exchange in all of their hospitals. After consideration of all critical security factors, Prime Healthcare is now planning to use the HSM Security module, a crypto processor that protects the cryptographic infrastructure. This module allows for data protection by cryptography methods at rest or on the move, network encryption and strong user authentication on the web. The purpose of this project is to provide information on the data protection solutions for the Prime Healthcare HIE network so Prime can achieve the ability to improve the quality of patient care, better communication with and among all physicians, and the ability to meet meaningful use criteria.
