Abstract/Summary:
An attempt was made to measure the self-concept of middle class adolescent males in terms of meaning by using a revision of the semantic differential. It was believed that this device was capable of differentiating between positive and negative aspects of self and that the differentiation would prove consistent with our present knowledge of self-concept responses. Data was derived only from the freely expressed verbal responses to the semantic differential scales. Factors which might have influenced the responses of the adolescents other than age, sex, and environment were not considered. The study was limited to ninth and tenth grade adolescent males who were then students at Raritan Township High School (New Jersey). (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
