Abstract/Summary:
One of the difficulties facing the man-machine interface of academic counselling systems is that the application domains of the interface change in time relatively frequently due to the nature of academic counselling systems. This research tries to find an efficient way to tackle the changing nature of academic courses and in order to do so, a natural language interface independent of application domains is implemented. The interface is a counselling system oriented, general purpose natural language front-end for academic counselling systems. The application domains are no longer the interface's concerns. Thus, the interface is very applicable to all kinds of counselling domains, albeit a course in education, a computer science course, university regulations, or academic information databases. This interface has incorporated knowledge engineering technologies, natural language processing techniques, expert systems techniques and logic programming methods.
