Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine and annotate journal literature produced from 1965 through 1983 concerning junior college libraries and learning resources centers. The major objectives of the study was to answer the following: (1) What has been written and on what subject? (2) Were the authors male or female? (3) Did individuals writing about junior/community college libraries reside in a particular region of the country at the time of writing the articles? (4) Was the author an instructor in library science, a praticioner on the junior/community college level, or someone outside the field but interested in junior college libraries?;The methodology followed employed the use of a checklist which was used while examining each article from the standpoint of subject information and author information. The subject information included a full bibliographic citation, a brief annotation, subject catagories, and geographic catagories. The author information included the sex, geographic location and occupation of the author at the time the article was written. The information gained from the use of the checklist was reported in the form of tables. Full bibliographic citations were given for each article with subjects listed in parenthesis at the end of the annotation. The material was arranged in five-year periods with the last period containing four years. Each period was covered in a separate chapter with an introductory section at the beginning of each table summarizing the results. The complete bibliography for each period was listed at the end of the chapter.;The results for the total nineteen years shows that public services was the main topic discussed. The majority of the authors were male and the major area of the country in which the writer resided was the Midwest followed closely by the Northeast. Practicing librarians wrote more than 50% of the articles. Some noticable changes occurred in the period covering the 1980s. The overall changes can be traced in the individual chapters and in the summary tables appearing in Chapter VII.;The study was limited to articles in journals published in the United States and to those whose subject covered some aspect of the community/junior college library and learning resources center.
