Abstract/Summary:
The Hathaway Family had accumulated records of their social and business life in Santa Fe Springs, California from 1895 through 1986. Their businesses included both farming and oil ventures. The papers were in no semblance of order. The assemblage included photographs, maps, books and other printed material along with handwritten documents.;Researchers, individuals in the area, companies and government agencies were aware of these items and there were frequent requests for access to them. It was necessary to bring the records under control before the information they contained could be safely used.;The main paper describes how the collection was brought into order through use of archival procedures in arrangement and conservation. The appendixes present the completed register, forms used in processing the papers and forms developed to allow for public access to this manuscript collection of the Hathaway Ranch Museum.
