ignal transduction is responsible for the regulation of fundamental aspects of cell function. In many systems, signaling occurs through the formation of large, multimolecular assemblies. Analyses of the molecular recognition involved in complex formation will thus provide an understanding of signaling processes at the atomic level. The research described in this thesis is focused on the structural basis of the inhibition of the protein phosphatase, calcineurin, by the complex the immunophilin FKBP12 and the natural product FK506.
