Abstract/Summary:
The theory of personality types and the ability to measure those types has been studied for decades. These studies have established that different occupations attract particular personality types and student populations of these professions, often exhibit the same tendencies. A recent study suggested that, like other professions, landscape architecture attracts and exhibits dominance of certain personality types. This study was undertaken to evaluate if these personality types were represented at the university level.;The Keirsey Temperament Sorter was administered to the student population at the School of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph. The data suggest that, consistent with earlier findings, the landscape architecture student populations and faculty differ from the general population. The students tend to prefer intuition, feeling, and judging characteristics.;This knowledge may be used to improve teaching methods and to examine the selection process for admission to the program and to address concerns within the profession.
