Abstract/Summary: | |
his thesis proposes a fiber angle tolerance design for the laminate manufacturing lay-up processes which provides a possible way to reduce the high cost of forming laminates. A mathematical method of determining the tolerances needed to maintain the design properties of the laminates and eliminating costly testing is needed.;A model is built for a commonly used balanced, symmetric angle ply laminate including deviations from the design angle. A linear multi-variable Taylor series expansion approximates the relation between CTE and fiber angles over a small range.;The results show that (1) the linear multi-variable Taylor series expansion shows clearly how a fiber angle in its corresponding ply affects laminate's the CTE; (2) the sensitivity of the CTE to angle variation... |
