This dissertation analyzes the influences emanating from the U.S. based multinational banking community on the construction and initial evolution of the Bretton Woods Monetary system. Special emphasis is placed on the character and operating procedures of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The thesis argues that this sector of the American economy was a consistent and influential actor throughout the construction and initial evolution of the system. As a result, this research attempts to provide a fuller understanding by paying due respect to the visions, goals and activities of the U.S. based multinational banks. |
