Chinese Monetary Institution Transformation Before War And Study On Its Reason

Money plays an extremely important role in economics, and monetaryinstitution has so great influence on the nation that almost all the governmentspay much attention to it. But Chinese monetary institution changed greatlybefore the Anti-Japan War, a better understanding not only makes senseacademically, but also is beneficial to contemporary economic development.Based on the document and academic products, this thesis summarizes thetransformation of monetary institution during late Qing Dynasty and thebreakout of the Anti-Japan War. The author applies the method andknowledge of economics to the analysis on the reasons and characteristics ofthe monetary transformation.The thesis reviewed the monetary institution in terms of monetary standard,monetary issuance, monetary circulation and administration which contributesto better understanding of the monetary transformation during the periodmentioned above. Before the Anti-Japan War, Chinese monetary system wastotally in chaos. Various currencies emerged in the market, the exchange ratesamong them changed frequently. The development of the monetary institutionalso suffered a lot of difficulties and hardships. However, it was stillcomplied with the general principle of the monetary development, from chaosto order and tending to unify.This thesis is consisted of 5 chapters. The first chapter is introduction;chapter 2, chapter 3 and chapter 4 clarify the monetary transformation of lateQing Dynasty, the Northern Warlords Government and the KMT Governmentrespectively;the last chapter is the economic studies on the reasons andcharacteristics of the monetary transformation.
