This thesis evaluates the development of psychosocial based intervention with victims of sexual assault within a designated center situated in the Lanaudiere region. This center offers forensic and psychosocial services within five days following a sexual aggression. However, a critical review of the literature reveals that training geared to this specific issue is not available in French. So as to better compensate, a group of six nurses and four psychosocial professionals from the center were offered training specifically developed. A testing method was used prior to and following the training session to evaluate overall program. The data collected was then subjected to non-parametrical statistical analysis. The results revealed that the training sessions had both positive impacts in regard to the participants and their practice but showed little influence on their pre-existing general knowledge of the sexual assault phenomena. Within this context, continued research based on the training of the professionals in designated centers is recommended. |
