Abstract/Summary:
In the past few decades, the rapid development of hardware and software has led to a new era: the era of information. The Internet has become the major media though which massive information is generated, transmitted and browsed. Based on the huge amount of information available on the Internet, there is a trend in recent years to make information available anywhere and on a variety of devices. Information retrieved from the Internet does not, however, always fit the many different kind of devices available.; In this research, we address the issue of automatic transformation of forms to facilitate human-machine interaction to make it possible for uses of small devices to handle a wide variety of interaction within a relatively small screen space. This would benefit users of the web on small devices and E-business especially.; This thesis is concerned about the device-independent transformation of forms on web pages. The overall goal of this research is to take the advantage of the characteristics of forms on web pages to dynamically generate forms that fit on the target device. This is done by generating the XML representation of the web form, which is then used to create a data structure. The data structure is independent from any display device and can output algorithmically device-related forms that are suitable for the device's screen, with minimal loss of content and context. In this way the user can concentrate on the data rather than the device.
