propose in theory and demonstrate in experiment a fibre optic sensor which measures fluorescent lifetime and fiber length using an all optical signal processing scheme. The scheme uses a double modulation homodyne method to produce auto or cross correlation in frequency domain. Because it eliminates the need for high bandwidth optical detection and electronic processing, it has the potential of superior performance with less complexity than conventional time or frequency domain fluorometers.
