This qualitative study describes the implementation of critical thinking and information literacy skills instruction in the library media curriculum for fourth grade students. Instructional design utilized district initiatives and findings from a literature review identifying strategies for effective thinking and information skills instruction, and factors of instituting changes in educational settings. These lessons were presented to two classes during weekly library media center sessions and integrated with classroom curriculum. Data was collected through student questionnaires, artifacts, observations, and conferences with classroom teachers and indicated an increase in information literacy. |
