Abstract/Summary:
The characterization of venting in a system of chambers and vents is necessary for the proper design of space flight hardware exposed to a changing pressure environment. This type of analysis is generally concerned with determining the resultant pressure loads on flight hardware containing enclosed volumes. Venting analysis is also used to determine the pressure range at which corona arcing takes place and when it is safe to power hardware. A continuum and free molecular venting code (Program OG) with the ability to model material offgassing has been developed to support future venting analyses. The code is fully operational and has been partially verified and validated for a few cases. The program models a general system of chambers and vents containing an arbitrary mixture of gases. Heat transfer is assumed to either be adiabatic or isothermal. The code performs calculations much quicker than conventional methods such as Monte Carlo simulation.
