This research was a case study of the news channel of Chinese Television Network (CTN), a vernacular (Mandarin-speaking) satellite news channel since 1994 aimed at broadcasting international news to Greater China.; Staff interviews and the observations of the researcher's revealed that CTN was not a successful case yet because of the limited audience and market, the lack of common consent about the pan-Chinese perspective, and the financial crisis.; The content analysis and framing analysis showed that CTN did adopt more neutral and fair frames than local news organizations, and it tried to provide more international news and news about all Chinese. However, CTN did not have enough staff and resources to support and realize its ideals. |
