| This thesis introduces a compositional approach to recognition by using the multi-scale computations. Such method is in the field of syntactical approach, one of the main branches in the research of pattern recognition.; A probability of labeled trees is employed and therefore the likelihood ratio of the composition is defined. We introduce the relative coordinate system for the sake of composition. Two theorems, which are used in computing the likelihood ratio, are proved. Also we develop a set of algorithms to derive the interpretation of an image. We use many handwritten letters for the test. The results are quite satisfactory. |
