A block-based image fusion approach to multiresolution mosaic

Techniques for rendering arbitrarily large multiresolution mosaics in the simulation of terrain surfaces are discussed. Requirements for these mosaics and their construction are introduced. Deficiencies in the application of conventional mosaic approaches to the multiresolution mosaic are identified. Qualifications for an affective solution are developed. Recent image fusion research is discussed and image fusion is proposed as a solution to the multiresolution mosaic problem. A block-based, multi-resolution, image fusion technique using the Short-Time Fourier transform (STFT) is proposed. Experiments are constructed to test the viability of the approach. Results are presented and discussed.
