Abstract/Summary:
This work examines the performance of a number of scheduling algorithms for the wireless packet data evolution of third generation cellular systems. A brief description of some of these systems is given. A description of the investigated algorithms (some pre-existing, some newly proposed) and the simulation structure used is provided. The algorithms are then analyzed in three different wireless channel models (two pedestrian, one vehicular). For each channel, both outdated channel state information plus margins and perfect prediction are used to determine the supportable bit rate and transmission format for each user in the sector. Various performance measures including the average throughput per sector and per user, effective bit rates of packets, delay experienced per packet and per user, and the number of time slots allocated to each user are considered and compared between the algorithms, channels, and format determination methods. Conclusions are provided and possible future work is discussed.
