Abstract/Summary:
Differentiated Services (DiffServ) is scalable for deployment in today's Internet, and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) provides fast packet switching and the opportunity for traffic engineering. Thus, the combination of DiffServ and MPLS presents a very attractive strategy to Service Provider Network (SPN) providers. This document defines a multiple SPN scenarios solution for support of DiffServ over MPLS networks. The solution allows the MPLS cloud network administrator (or SPN operators) to select different DiffServ BAs to map onto LSPs to best meet the DiffServ, Traffic Engineering and protection objectives of the desired particular network. The solution allows the network administrator the flexibility to decide whether different sets of BAs are to be mapped onto the same LSP or mapped onto separate LSPs, at the same time whether the LSPs for different sets of BAs are mapped dynamically or statically.; The next section motivates our work on MPLS and DiffServ integration. Section 2 gives a DiffServ overview and talks about it's applicability. Section 3 talks about MPLS architecture and it's features, which makes it a value-added technology for QoS provisioning. In section 4, Design Choices are evaluated for our Service Provider Network. In section 5, the various Network Scenarios are presented where the DiffServ-MPLS integration is provided, and in section 6, the conclusion of the work is provided.
