Extensible Markup Language (XML) is emerging as a standard for data representation and data exchange. It is important to have a query language suitable for XML documents and a query processor to process queries written in this query language. XQuery is a potential standard query language for XML documents and XQuery Core is a fully expressive sublanguage of it. This thesis describes a query processor that implements XQuery Core with extended features as the query language. The query processor can be used as a stand-alone application, or as a part in the ToX (Toronto XML) engine which provides tools to manipulate a repository of XML documents. Experiments are performed to show the effects of document size and query writing on the performance of the query processor. Related and future work are also discussed. |
