Abstract/Summary:
An Optical fiber coupler is a key component used in fiber optical communication systems. The reliability of the fiber coupler plays an important role in fiber optical technology. This research provides an FEA model to simulate the vibration and drop shock during the reliability testing. Both linear and nonlinear models are built. By using the extrapolation pseudo force method, the nonlinear equations, which are caused by the geometric nonlinearity of the system, are solved in ANSYS. Furthermore, with an optimization model, the design optimization is performed with different objective functions including the bending stress of the fiber and the reaction forces of the two end caps and the bounding points with the substrate. Finally, a comprehensive parametric study is carried out on the dynamic behaviour of the coupler during the shock and hence the reliability information about the coupler is provided.
