Abstract/Summary:
The objective of this study is to show the importance of using active and reactive components of the electrical impedance for void fraction measurement and to carry out flow pattern identification. The outcome of this work will also provide the required information for sensor design.; One of the most frequently used technique for measuring the void fraction in a channel is based on the change of electrical conductivity of the mixture caused by the presence of gas bubbles in a liquid medium. In general, this technique consists in applying an electrical potential to the flow by using electrodes. In fact the electrical field is strongly influenced by the changes of the two-phase flow topology in the channel cross-section. The perturbation caused by the presence of bubbles, results in a change of the active and reactive components of the impedance which can be measured via the electrodes.; In this research, numerical simulations software has been developed to study the changes in the electrical field caused by different two-phase flow patterns.
