| The purpose of this study was to review the rationale for the organizational philosophy of interdisciplinary teaming in middle level schools, determining how teams should theoretically function, and what advantages should be obtained in teaming situations. This study then followed the process of interdisciplinary teaming in an urban middle school, with the primary focus being placed on one particular sixth grade team. The objective here was to observe and describe the teaming process of this team, evaluating whether or not it functioned as it should, according to the teaming literature, and to establish if the proposed advantages of interdisciplinary teaming were actually being realized. The findings of this inquiry show that, for the most part, the interdisciplinary team being studied did function as it should, and many of the proposed advantages of interdisciplinary teaming were observed, so the goals of teaming were being achieved by this sixth grade interdisciplinary team. |
