Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions that California community college athletic directors and newspaper sportswriters have toward the sports information position at the California community college level. One survey sample consists of 60 community college athletic directors and four other college personnel answering a survey intended for athletic directors. The other survey sample consists of 18 sportswriters working at daily newspapers that have at least one community college in their circulation area.;The results indicate that athletic administrators perceive the community college sports information position to be desirable but not absolutely necessary. Newspaper sportswriters perceive the sports information position to be highly beneficial to their work in covering community college athletic news and events and show unanimous support for more community colleges to add a sports information position to their staff.
