Abstract/Summary:
Human rights organizations are the only entities dealing extensively with human rights issues. These organizations can assume two different forms: intergovernmental organizations created by nations and nongovernmental organizations created by private individuals. Many of these organizations focus on the advocacy of specific human rights. They can facilitate the implementation of the United Nations international human rights standards contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.;This study is an exploration of the work of some of these human rights organizations. It attempts to determine whether human rights organizations, no matter their legitimacy, are collaborating in an effective way to achieve the mission of the United Nations: building a world where the rights of every human being are truly respected. The major concern of the researcher is to establish if human rights organizations are doing their best in order to achieve this goal.
