| My thesis proposes an urban design for Bishopsgate Goodsyard site in London, England, by using the archaeological precedent of the site and a study of the needs of the communities that surround it.; My analysis of the site and the communities around it show that it sits at the crossroads of four distinct communities: a Bangladeshi community, an English working class community, trendy urbanites, and city “boys” and “girls.” The needs of these four communities have informed my proposals for the site.; I have investigated the history of the site and used the process of overlay to resolve the issues of public and private space. I have also taken the original domestic typologies of the site and, applying form-generating processes, developed a language for building.; Theories of structure and infill were used to develop this language into a modular approach to construction that allows the flexibility to reflect the social and economic needs of each of the four communities. |
