The literature surrounding problematic areas for Vietnamese L2 learners is vast. This paper will identify, describe, and analyze the differences between English and Vietnamese structures in syntax, specifically: verb use, verb forms, and verb classes. These analyses will pinpoint English verb structures that are problematic for Vietnamese learners of English, such as, subject-verb agreement, tense and aspect, and marginal verbs, such as, copula be, have, and do. It will also compare case relations and corresponding verb classes.; The significance for investigating these challenging areas is to determine effective teaching strategies in order to overcome difficulties caused by these variations. Finally, a list of references used to research findings will be included. |
