Abstract/Summary:
For this research, two road projects constructed in New Brunswick, Canada and two road projects constructed in Mali, Africa, were studied. In each of these two locations, analyses of both the physical and mechanical properties of the materials used were carried out in an effort to determine the predicted quality of the final roadway. This research will try to determine whether the quality control methodologies being used can be improved and try to determine what correlation exists between the quality of the materials and that of the roadway. An aspect of this study will be to identify the various tests being used to control the quality of road materials in New Brunswick whether they could be used in Mali and vice versa.; In New Brunswick, the roadway projects that were selected are: the Trans Canada, Route 2, from Magnetic Hill to Scoudouc (Mapleton Rd to Route 115) a length of 5.2 kilometres; and the Trans Canada, Route 2, from the Riverglade Speedway to the intersection of Route 112, a length of 9.7 kilometres. In Mali, the first project is the Koutiala to Sienso Road, a length of 12.7 kilometres; and the second is the Kati to Kita Road (dirt road), a length of 161.95 kilometres. This study will focus on the subbase and subgrade materials. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
