| A new model to determine the level of oxygen saturation in the blood was proposed using Spectrophotometry techniques. The proposed model would allow for continuous monitoring of saturated venous oxygen in patients. Experiments were performed to derive a saturation equation and to induce the several variables involved in the determination of oxygen saturation in the blood. The proposed system employs signal processing and fiber optics techniques to evaluate the level of saturation and to continuously monitor the amount of cardiac flow. An algorithm was suggested to account for the different variables affecting the saturation measurement and to estimate any faults that might occur. Unlike existing instruments for measurement of oxygen saturation level in the blood, the proposed system allows such measurements by the bedside. However, this may only be implemented on critical cases since it involves the introduction of the optical fibers directly into the heart. |
