This study compared examined literature to verify an association between anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction procedures and failure rates. The two procedures examined were the patellar tendon transfer (BPTB) and the semitendinosus tendon transfer (ST). Previously published studies were reviewed to gather data on the frequency that each type of reconstruction procedure suffered graft ruptures. The traditional method of using millimeters of anterior displacement, subjective patient instruments, and other clinical measures were not addressed in this study.;Sub-problems of gender, age, and rehabilitation protocols were each examined for any possible effect upon the outcome of each procedure. There was insufficient or incomplete data included in the reviewed studies to make any relevant inferences regard the effects of gender, age or rehabilitation protocol upon the failure rates of either procedure examined.;Statistical analysis was completed using the chi-square (chi 2) test. The calculation of chi-square demonstrated that a statistically significant association between failure rates and the BPTB and ST reconstruction procedures was not present.
