Abstract/Summary:
The concept of radiation exposure "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA) was reviewed for a Los Angeles County hospital on November 26th, 1996 by the teams of Radiological Associate. The purpose of this project is to reemphasize the importance of quality assurance in the area of radiation safety in the workplace. Currently the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NCR) or the Agreement States regulates the radiation safety practices. The external auditors observed and reviewed the continuing education standards for use and disposal of radioactive materials in the Department of Nuclear Medicine for Los Angeles County hospital, located in the inner city of Los Angeles. Subsequently, reports including recommendations for remedial action were prepared for the management of the hospital.
