| The Northern Waxy Corn Growers Association (NWCGA) markets waxy corn for its members, who are located in southeastern North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota. Members deliver their waxy corn by truck to specified elevators where it is loaded onto unit trains for outbound shipment. This paper uses a least-cost shipping model, based on mixed-integer programming, to identify optimal collection points for waxy corn. Results of several scenarios are presented, illustrating the impact of different assumptions about production levels, elevator handling costs, and producer delivery patterns. |
